Butterflies!

Today was all about the butterfly!  We spent all morning learning about the life cycle of a butterfly through books, a black light story (which the kids loved!), crafts, and coloring.  We have been working hard all week on number recognition, writing the ABC's and 123's, and the letter Q.  In Bible, the children have learned all about the death and resurrection of Jesus.

Next week we will learn the letter Y, and begin working on simple addition.  Some will catch on quickly to this and some will take longer, but they all enjoy this challenge.

Our Egg Hunt will be on Tuesday.  Please don't forget to send in the 2 dozen eggs on Monday.  If you are planning to come help with hiding the eggs, let us know ahead of time.

There are several different viruses going around right now with fever, vomiting, and severe sinus issues.  Please remember the school sick policy.  We want to keep our sweet kiddos healthy for these last few weeks.

Our End of the Year Program is coming up on the last day of school, May 16th at 8:30am.  Please remember to send us your child's baby picture ASAP.  Thanks!  The kids are working hard and we know you are going to love it!

Don't forget:  Friday there is no school in observance of Good Friday.

Catch me if you can!

Well parents…we finally made it to our Spring Break!  We are all hoping for some warmer, dryer weather and sunshine when we return to school after the break.  Today we talked about the wind and did some fun activities with that.  We used a bubble machine and spent a long time on the playground chasing bubbles as the wind blew.

We also tried to catch a leprechaun.  We didn’t succeed and he made a HUGE mess!!! The kids thought this was the greatest day ever!  Don't be surprised if they ask you to make a trap at home tomorrow.

We have completed our unit on nature.  When we return after the break we will begin a unit on Animals in the Wild.  If your child is looking for something to work on at home, have them  work on writing numbers 1-10,  letters A-Z (correctly and in order),  and when we return we will also begin  learning to write our last names.

You should have received an email about our upcoming Boosterthon and Spring Sprint.  Please register your child over spring break and begin collecting those pledges.  This is our largest and easiest fundraiser.  The Boosterthon team will be here on March 27th to get your kids pumped up!  Get ready!!!

Saturday, March 30th is our Stepping Stones Spring Carnival.  It begins at 9am and all activities are free for your kids.  Please come enjoy a fun morning with your kids!

Mark this date on your calendar now- May 16, Prekindergarten End of the Year Program 8:30am

WE HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A WONDERFUL, FUN, AND SAFE SPRING BREAK!!!!!

In like a lion...

We've been busy little bees this week!  We learned the letter W, used a scale to learn to measure objects, and worked on blending the sounds in words.
Next week, we will introduce the letter X, continue learning about Jesus, review the seasons and things found in nature, and we will discuss time of day and temperature.  On Friday, we will spend the day talking about the wind, and we will try to set a trap to catch a leprechaun.

Report cards are coming home today.  If your child does not receive theirs today, please check with the business office.  We are very excited to see all the progress the kids have made!  If your child was in Mrs. Stephens class previously, please notice the scores may be different for your child this quarter.  Review the grading scale on the card.  If you have any questions, please see your child's teacher.

We have some exciting things coming up soon for Stepping Stones. Our Spring Carnival will take place on March 30th from 9-12.  It is a super fun morning for your kids!  A lot of work goes into making this special for our preschoolers.  I hope you are planning to attend and don't forget to bring along friends or family with you with preschoolers.  You all would be great tour guides for new families!

We are one week away from Spring Break!  After that, time will fly super fast!  Hang on tight!

On Friday, April 5th we will have Spring Sprint.  This is our biggest and most exciting fundraiser for our kids.  More details will be coming out soon!

We hope you have a wonderful weekend!  See you Monday!

Happy Heart Week!

As you all know we have been very busy this week with all our Valentine activities.  Thanks for helping your children with their Valentine boxes.  They looked great and the kids enjoyed showing them off!  We had fun showing friendship and love to our classmates and others yesterday!
“Pastries with Parents” was very successful.  We enjoyed watching all the parents and grandparents spending quality time with their children.  Your kids always love to show you off!!!

We did our Valentine’s Day service project for Room in the Inn.  The kids helped put together Blessing Bags filled with toiletries and treats for the men to use. We enjoyed getting to share the love of Jesus with others!

Continue working on writing, counting, and alphabet letters/sight words daily with your children.  We, as their teachers, can see a huge improvement from the beginning of the school year and we hope you are seeing it too.

Next week we will move on to the letter U, work more on rhyming words, the sound each letter makes, and we will be working on a project to display in the hallway for Black History Month.

The week of February 25-March 1 is Read Across America Week in honor of Dr. Seuss.  Be looking for a sign up sheet outside our door to be a guest reader in the classroom.  Find your favorite book to share with us.  It can be from any author.

Don’t forget:  Monday, February 18th – no school

Share the Love

We have had a very nice, unusually warm week.  We spent quite a bit of time outside this week soaking up the sun!  It was wonderful!

The kids enjoyed learning about farm animals, reading and retelling the story of the Three Little Pigs, and are working hard on letters, sounds, counting, and sight words.

Next Thursday, we will celebrate Valentine's Day.  Please have your child make a card for each child in the classroom.  Fill it out like this:
To:  My Friend
From: Your child's name
The passing out process goes a lot faster this way.  They can also make cards for Mrs. Vinson, Mrs. Boyd and the specialty teachers if they would like to do that.
Remember to either decorate a Valentines box or gift bag.  That is what they will use to collect their cards.  Send the cards and box/bag on Thursday.
We will be making Blessing Bags as a way to serve others and show them how much we love them.  We know the kids will enjoy this project!

We hope  you have registered with the office for Pastries with Parents on Thursday morning.  If not, please do so ASAP.  On this day, please bring your child's belongings to the classroom and then head to the cafeteria for your treats.  After eating, bring your child to the room.  You may either head to the gym to enjoy a special chapel with us or you can tell your child goodbye.  We look forward to seeing you all that day!

We hope you are planning to re-enroll your child at EHCS for Kindergarten.  As their teachers, we look forward to watching them grow up at our school.  We love having you as part of the Ezell-Harding family!

Conference day is approaching.  Your child's teacher will be contacting you Monday if the teacher feels a conference may be necessary at this time.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Hello February

Hello Everyone!

This week we finished our unit on Transportation and will begin Animals Around Us on Monday.  We celebrated the 100th day of school and now we are on the downward slop.  We hoped for a snow day, but didn't really get that.  Hopefully, we will have another chance.  February is full of fun and we can't wait to get started on it all.  Here are some important dates:

February 5th- 1/2 day dismissal at 10:45 for teacher inservice.  Your child will need to bring their lunch if staying for extended day.

February 14th is Pastries with Parents.  Don't forget to sign up on the link sent out by Mrs. Boyd.  Also, we will be having our yearly service project.  This year we are going to be making Blessing Bags for the Room in the Inn program at Rural Hill Church of Christ.  If you are unfamiliar with this, they feed and service the homeless in the area.
Also, your child will need to bring in a decorated box and Valentine card for each of their classmates.  Please be watching for an email from your child's teacher concerning this.

February 18th- No school, President's Day

February 27th is a change on our Field Trip schedule.  Originally, we were going to the Children's Theater in March.  However, the music teacher scheduled us to go to TPAC to see "The Rainbow Fish".  Unfortunately, we will not be able to take parents along on this trip.  There is no extra charge for this trip.  It's already been paid for in your Activity Fee.

***PLEASE SEND IN BOX TOPS!  WE NEED AS MANY AS POSSIBLE.  THANKS!***

Have a great weekend!  Enjoy the warmer weather!

Tooth Fairy

Today we had fun learning all about Dental Health.  We discussed how to care for our teeth, foods that make our teeth happy or sad, and had a special visit from the Tooth Fairy.  She taught the children how to properly brush and floss, sang songs, told stories, and shared her silly chimpanzee puppet.  Ask your child to tell you what the puppet did to them!  February is Dental Health month so this was a great introduction for your kids.  Soon they will all be teeth experts!

On Tuesday of next week, we will be celebrating the 100th day of school!  This is always an exciting day and your kids will be participating in lots of special activities.  We are looking forward to it!!

We have reached the point in our school year where some of the students are ready to begin learning sight words.  Therefore, if your child has mastered all of the letter recognition, we are sending home a note and the first list in their binder.  Directions for you as parents are all in the note.  Parents of children, who are still learning the letters, don’t fear!  This does not mean your child is behind.  All children learn at different paces and levels.  Encourage your child and work with them on the level they are in currently.  Trying to push something on them they are not ready to learn will only make them frustrated.  At any point your child masters the complete alphabet; they too will begin sight words.  Please let us know if you have any questions.

Sunday is our Open House for Prospective Families.  If you have any family or friends interested in Ezell, please send them our way.  We would love to meet them!  It begins at 2pm.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend and hopefully enjoy some sunshine!!!

Instant Snow

Well, if it won't snow in Nashville, we will just make our own.  Today our Weekly Reader/STEM lesson was all about ice melting into water, so we had some fun with it.  We created our own snow using baking soda and hair conditioner.  It made the most amazing snow and we had so much fun playing with it!  We also observed as ice cubes melted throughout the day and discussed the process as that happened.

Next week we will begin a new unit on Transportation, the letter R, begin working on making patterns, tracing the alphabet in order, and will discuss Arctic animals on Friday.

Tonight is our Coming Home basketball game against Knowledge Academy.  The game begins at 6:00.  We would love to see you there!  If you are there, come find Mrs. Williams and she will have a surprise for you.

Don't forget that Tucker Photography is offering a 10% discount right now.  Class pictures are available for order on the website.

Enjoy your weekend!!!

Happy New Year!

Welcome back to school!  We hope you had a great holiday season spent with those you love.  This new year has brought a lot of changes for all of us with our new classes.  It's gone really well so far and everyone seems to be adjusting to their new surroundings and classmates.  We are excited to see what this last semester holds for your kids!  Some of the upcoming skills your children will be learning are: counting to 100, beginning sight words, writing 1-10, writing A-Z, and getting fully prepared for Kindergarten.

Report cards are being sent home today.  If your child was previously with Mrs. Stephens please be aware that the assessment was completed by her and the last semester will be completed by Ms. Gobble or Mrs. Williams.  Please sign the card and return it on Monday.

We will be getting back into our curriculum next week with the letter D and will be completing our unit on Neighborhoods.  We will also be busy getting our rooms and hallways decorated for the month of January and the winter season.

Have a wonderful, relaxing weekend!
